Have a Healthy and Happy New Year 2014!

I pray all my Anipals will have a healthy new year. Please, please, please read all pet food and treat labels. Check the ingredients. If you are unfamiliar with an ingredient-research.  There is so much information out there-at your fingertips and paws! Educate yourself on the recalls and pet foods and treats that have been reported to have adverse effects.
Stay up to date  on pet medications, flea products, and even how a pet toy is made.  Be informed a to   WHERE products are manufactured and also where the ingredient or materials come from.
Don't be afraid to contact a manufacturer and ASK questions.

Rainbow Bridge Anipals

      I realize I have not blogged since before the Christmas holidays. That does not mean to say that I have abandoned Blogger.  I remain here, in the background, checking comments that my readers have so gratiously  taken the time to leave for me.  I so appreciate each and every response and suggestion, and compliments from y'all.  Your kind words turn a stressful day into a happy relaxation. And,  I am so honored and grateful for the ever increasing page views.  So many of my readers have such interesting and helpful blogs here on Blogger and on Wordpress.  I have been educated on dog health, dog food, animal laws from many countries, animal rights organizations, human health and nutrition, history, travel, and so many other topics from Bloggers. 
      If you are on Twitter or Facebook, I also check my Twitter and Facebook pages daily.   I now have over 500 Twitter followers. I have met so many "anipals" on Twitter and enjoy meeting each and every one.  I don't just click the "follow" button.  I will check you out, see what interests you, where you are from, and "talk" to you.    I am interested in each and every anipal and their human that follows me, and have enjoyed many a lively discussion with most.
     Thanks to Blogger, Wordpress, Twitter and Facebook, I now have friends and anipals from all over the world.  I am learning words from languages other than English with the assistance of Google and Bing Translate, or with Babelfish.  Do you know what BOL or MOL mean?  Why, Bark Out Loud and Meow Out Loud!

OCTOBER IS "ADOPT A SHELTER DOG" MONTH

As my readers know, I was adopted from a shelter.  I am so very, very grateful to have my own bed, and a zillion toys, and a fenced yard to run around in.  My Mom & Dad say they are the lucky ones to have found me.  They say their lives are happier, more meaningful, and a lot more active (they emphasize  the more active part).  I guess it's the Jack Russell in me.  I was pre-housetrained, too!
Please don't buy from a Puppy Mill.  Please go to your local animal shelter and give a pet a new home.  And, if you cannot adopt or rescue a dog, donate what you can to your local shelter, even if it is the price of a cup of coffee.  Animal shelters always can use:  Money, food, toys, towels, paper-towels, or even your time.

My Mom remembers exactly where she was and what she was doing when she first heard the news about the attacks on the World Trade Center – Twin Towers. She told me how it was all so unbelievable–like she was in a dream. She recalls being glued to the TV and praying for those that had been injured or died, and hoping that none of her friends were in the towers. She, like many others, sadly learned that someone she knew that worked there did not make it out–a young man, early twenties, just graduated college the year before and was so excited to be working in New York City. The anniversary of this tragic event is next Tuesday. Say a prayer not only on that day, but pray every day that this will never again happen on American soil. Give thanks to those that defend our country and to those who daily monitor terroristic activity in the hope of preventing another tragedy. Value our freedoms. Don’t take it for granted. Live life to the fullest, my friends.

Lost Dogs and Cats - Atlanta and Georgia Petfinder Websites

I was doing research on locating lost pets and found these websites.  Thanks to the creators and contributors of these very valuable and useful websites.   If you find a lost dog or cat, if at all possible check these websites and any others you are aware of, before turning the pet over to a shelter.  Some shelters only keep animals 3 or 5 days.   Contact local veterinarians, and check out posters and flyers attached to stop signs or light poles.  I pray that all lost and missing dogs and cats and pets are safely reunited with their parents.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY 2012

This is the day we annually celebrate America’s independence from England. Picnics, B-B-Q, watermelon & fireworks. How joyous Americans must have been on that 1st independence day in 1776! Freedom! Now it is 2012. America’s freedoms have been eroding ever since. Obama’s mandate that one must purchase health insurance is a tax on citizens! One will no longer be free to choose whether or not to purchase health insurance. If you don’t-you could be treated like a criminal, and, penalized by the IRS. “Don’t worry–only the “Middle Class” will be affected. Right–those that already pay taxes, work hard, try to build a better life, and don’t expect a handout–watch out! The lessor of two evils is Romney–at least he isn’t trying to crush this country with debt and socialism. Please give your vote careful consideration, my friend. Else, the 4th of July celebration may become a distant memory.

Piedmont Park & Atlanta Dogwood Festival = No Dogs

The 2012 Atlanta Dogwood Festival is this weekend (April 20-22). (Atlanta happenings)
Per City of Atlanta Ordinance 110-70(d), dogs are not allowed at this festival.  Any public gathering of which it is expected that attendance will exceed 10,000, (and this festival will)does not allow dogs, even though the festival is held at Piedmont Park (a public park), in Atlanta on Piedmont Road.  I have given this matter careful thought, as at first I was highly offended that  I and my other four-legged friends were not welcome.  But following some serious bone-chewing hashing over of this set-back, (during which I considered disguising myself by wearing a baby-bonnet, sunglasses, and riding inside a baby stroller) I have decided that I am in agreement with the Atlanta city officials.  While this park is very large, it quickly gets crowded by the sheer number of attendees to this festival.  There will be lots of children trampling the grass, running and screaming; dropping food all over the ground; trying to touch or even kiss me!  It can get pretty hot, and the sidewalks and asphalt can burn my tender toes.  I may be tempted to clean-up discarded onion-covered hot dogs; raisin-dotted cookies; grapes, or macadamia nuts (all of which dogs should never eat).  There isn't any doggie port-a-potties, and water may not be readily available.  And, I could get stepped on or run over by a cell-phone texting-distracted bicyclist.  Yes, it's a good idea that dogs are not allowed in such a big crowd.  So, leave us dogs at home or y'all just might get a citation.Have fun!

I went to the park yesterday. I go most days to run on the trails. My mom always carries a “poop bag” (or two) for my “occasional spills.” On my drive to the park, I couldn’t help but notice various “human droppings” along the roadway and in the parking lots: McDonalds cups and straws, Coke cans, water bottle, thousand of cigarette butts, and even one tennis shoe (which always reminds Mom of George Carlin’s skit about “why is there always only one shoe on the road–where is the other shoe?”). Why do humans have to litter? How often do you ever see dog food cans, dog food bags, or dog toys littering the streets and parking lots? Like, never. Mom uses baby wipes following my “toilet” but, if we are out in public, she discards them into the nearest trash can, and carries the soiled ones until she finds a disposal. But that’s too much trouble for some humans–they think they are being discreet when they “place” used Pampers under their cars–and then drive off. I saw y’all. Littering is a crime. It is sad when we need an ordinance because some humans lack respect for others property, for our environment, and apparently for their own self. Use trash cans, or, keep your garbage until you get home.

Georgia -Traffic Law - Headlights - Rain

I love to ride in the car!  I'm a dog.  It's usually a fun trip, except for those occasions when other driver's  don't know or don't care about the rules of the road in Georgia.  In my previous  blog, I discussed "Left-Lane Drivers."  A recent ride to the office on a very rainy and somewhat foggy day, which necessitated my  being reluctantly stuffed into a yellow-slicker rain coat, was filled with constant discussion about other drivers not having their headlights on.  My Mom tallied the number of  vehicles she observed in about three minutes  that did not have their headlights on.  Twenty-two cars!  Comparing this to the number of cars on the road at the time--this was a high percentage!   Georgia Law, O.C.G.A. 40-8-20  states in part:" every vehicle upon a roadway within this state at anytime when it is raining in the driving zone and at any other time when there is not sufficient visibility to render clearly discernible persons and vehicles on the highway at a distance of 500 feet ahead shall display lights and headlights...."  Simple put turn your headlights on when it is raining--even if your state does not have a law for this.   You might save a dog's life. (like mine).  Drive safely, my friends.

Dog & Pet Food: Health Safety Recall Warnings

It's time to buy a new bag of dog food. Yes, I, Tuck the Law Dog, eat commercial dog food.  However my Mom supplements it with baked chicken, boiled pork, broiled beef,  fresh veggies and fruits, and rice.  Mom was very active in the Pet Food Recall of 2007 (I wasn't born yet), spending a lot of time on her computer getting the word about about recalled food, opinions on what brands were ok for us to eat, feedback about how manufacturers were responding to the recall, etc.  On Tuesday, Mom "Googled" the brand of dog food (premium, good quality ingredients) she needed to get for me, and lo and behold she found numerous  and recent (January 2012) complaints about a recent "Lot" of this food  at www.consumeraffairs.com.  She then spent hours researching other dog foods, settling on two that received "5" stars by  www.dogfoodadvisor.com, as well as good reviews by other users.  Mom does rotate my  dog food thru 3 different types  to make sure that I am getting all my needed nutrients.  Anyway, I'm not here to recommend any brand or tell y'all what to eat. I just want to warn you of the importance of always checking for recalls, opinons and reviews  on dog food because you never know when an issue will arise.  Do NOT depend on the manufacturer to post a warning on their website.  Usually it is other consumers on the numerous websites concerning dogs, cats, etc., who get the word out about pet foods causing sickness and medical issues.   Mom likes these sites:  www.itchmoforums.com, www.petsitusa.com,  www.zootoo.com, and FDA's website.
Also read the user reviews on the websites that sell dog food.  Let's keep each other informed.
